The $28,000 Question: Wedding Sticker Shock
We recently discussed the cost of a celebrity wedding, but what about the rest of us? Financial blogger Ramit Sethi has written up an intriguing post on how to avoid potential sticker shock when planning a wedding, entitled “The 28,000 Question.” It all boils down to planning, planning, and more planning. A few recommendations: be realistic, set up a savings plan, and prioritize.
Karol Welsh of Dallas Wedding Planners recommends to every bride to be realistic with your wedding planning budget. Pick one of two items that you want to go all out on and make a dynamite statement. Then be cautious when spending your money on the other areas. Stick to your budget and don’t let the excitement of your day let you spend more than you can afford. I find most brides struggle with their budget from day one because they do not know how much things cost. The frustration level is extremely high once they start shopping around and find out the cost of items. My best recommendation is to hire a professionally trained wedding planner to assist you during the planning stages with your budget and steer you to qualified vendors you will meet your budget requirements.
