Today Dallas Wedding Planner and Something Blue is featuring the wedding of Fern and Jeff on May 23, 2009. They were married in the beautiful European gardens at Marie Gabrielle. The 1.5 acre garden is located in the heart of uptown amongst beautiful oak and river birch trees with views of downtown Dallas.  Lynn Michelle Photography was able to capture this gorgeous day and Dallas Wedding Planner appreciates her sharing these images with us. After the ceremony, the reception continued at Marie Gabrielle.

What a beautiful location for a ceremony!

Something Blue asked the bride to share some of her thoughts about her wedding day and the wedding planning process with you.

Did you have a design inspiration for your wedding?
There wasn’t one thing in particular that inspired the way I chose to decorate my wedding. About a year ago, I had helped my best friend plan her wedding and it was then that I fell in love with the color fuchsia. I felt that the color aptly reflected my personality, bright and somewhat unconventional (for a wedding color) yet classy and beautiful. I loved how the color popped with combined with calmer colors (like silver, ivory, black, brown) and wanted my wedding colors to be exactly that – something that stood out from the crowd. With the color in mind, I found that gerbera daisies and roses were flowers that best demonstrated the richness of the color I wanted (fuchsia, deep pink).

Were there any special family traditions you included in your wedding? Yes: Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony. We took this opportunity to thank our parents and grandparents for all that they’ve  done in raising us to be who we are today. The Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony is a semi-private event that was witnessed by the family, bridal party, and close family friends. During the Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony, hot tea is served by the bride and groom to each of their parents and grandparents and in turn receives a red packet that either contains their wedding gift or a symbol of prosperity (with the number 8).

Describe your wedding flowers and your wedding colors: Since I had decided on an outdoor daytime summer wedding, I wanted the atmosphere and flowers to reflect the somewhat whimsical and fun but classy spirit. I chose gerbera daisies as the central theme of the wedding, which I incorporated into the centerpieces, toss bouquet, wedding invitations & programs (and hopefully thank you cards!), and other table decorations. Going along the summer theme, I chose bright colors – fuschia and orange as my wedding colors. I wanted the wedding to be bright and cheery while staying classy.

What are the hardest decision you made during the planning process? Finding a location for the ceremony and reception and deciding how much I was willing to spend on the ceremony and reception location. The venue I chose had to have several things: a location that allowed for a beautiful outdoor ceremony but with a rain-out option that would still look just as beautiful and also convenient, a location that could host the ceremony and reception at the same place, a location that would not be outrageously expensive (under $15,000 including food and alcohol). I had visited numerous locations before settling on Marie Gabrielle. I fell in love with Marie Gabrielle the first time I visited the location (it was all decorated beautifully for a wedding) and they were willing to work with my budget.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day? Walking down the aisle and seeing for the first time, all the friends and family who came together to celebrate this wonderful occasion with you.

What was the most unexpected event on your wedding day? Completely winging our first dance! Neither Jeff or I are good dancers and we had only practiced once before. Our first dance ended up a mish-mash of our dancing skills but we both had fun and acted goofy the whole time.

Did you have any DIY items at your wedding? Yes: wedding invitations, wedding programs, reserved table signs, candy buffet table, asian themed table with fortune cookies, chinese tea ceremony setup

What’s next for you as a couple?  Honeymoon plans? The next big thing would be going on our honeymoon. We plan to go to Cancun, Mexico to celebrate our honeymoon, which was a wedding gift of a family friend. Besides that, we plan to enjoy being a newlywed for awhile.

What advice would you give a bride planning her wedding? Find/hire a wedding coordinator for the day of! I was extremely lucky that Marie Gabrielle came with an event coordinator: Lisa Yarbro. Lisa was absolutely wonderful. She took care of everything for me the day of the wedding – from setting up the decorations to coordinating the waitstaff, to cuing the wedding ceremony and reception programs, she was just absolutely wonderful! I did not have to worry about a thing the day of the wedding. Before the day of the wedding, Lisa and I went over the entire wedding itinerary, decorations, expectations, etc which made it extremely easy for me to relax and enjoy the day of my wedding. Also, if possible, have your maid of honor (MOH) be someone you can trust. My sister was my MOH and she was absolutely wonderful and super helpful! She helped me a lot during the planning process (second opinions, making invitations, picking up items and dropping them off) and also on the day of.
